Guest Composer 2025: Fabià Santcovsky

Born in 1989 in Barcelona, he studied with Gabriel Brn?i? and Mauricio Sotelo in his hometown, and later with Marco Stroppa and Daniel Ott in Stuttgart and Berlin. He has composed four chamber operas, commissioned by institutions and festivals such as the Teatro Argentino de La Plata, the Munich Biennale, and the Gran Teatre del Liceu; several orchestral works commissioned and performed by the OBC of Barcelona, the Spanish Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra, the SWR Stuttgart Symphony Orchestra, and the Tokyo Philharmonic; and chamber pieces commissioned by prestigious festivals such as the Aldeburgh Festival and the New Talents Biennale in Cologne. In 2024, he was awarded the Queen Sofía Prize for Musical Composition by the Ferrer-Salat Music Foundation. Earlier, in 2015, he received the 2nd Prize at the Toru Takemitsu Composition Award in Japan and, in 2016, the Wardwell Scholarship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. In 2021, he served as a young artist-in-residence at the Berlin Academy of Arts. Since 2022, he has collaborated on the organization of Los Encuentros de Pamplona - International Biennale of Art, Music, and Thought, focusing on musical programming. In much of his work, his music emerges from an imaginative world that evokes representations of archetypes related to the concept of nature, exploring the boundary between the human and the natural. As a counterpoint to this artistic vein, his operas feature a language enriched by electronic media and thematic frameworks inspired by science fiction, speculating on the future of technology as a transformative force shaping the condition, form, and culture of humanity.

Premi Fundació Francesc Pujols

The Josep Palet International Singing Competition reaffirms its commitment to new creation through the Francesc Pujols Foundation Prize, associated with the competition’s First Prize. The winner receives an original work composed especially for them, with text by the philosopher and writer Francesc Pujols. This award, sponsored by the Francesc Pujols Foundation, serves as a platform to support contemporary creators and as a tribute to Catalan cultural heritage.

Francesc Pujols (1882-1962), a prominent thinker of the Noucentisme movement, was a poet, essayist, and philosopher with a lucid and universal vision of Catalan culture. The foundation bearing his name works to preserve his legacy, which continues to inspire creators worldwide.

This collaboration symbolizes the union of two universal figures: Josep Palet, a tenor with a brilliant international career, and Francesc Pujols, a visionary thinker. Together, they project Catalan culture to the world and strengthen the bond between tradition, creation, and heritage.
